Nigellissima–the music

On Monday evening the last episode in the series was shown.  For me one of the highlights of the show was the Italian music, particularly in episodes 1 & 2.  I will explain why.  These were the only episodes where you saw Nigella introducing what her aim was with the series.  In the background there was a song playing that I first discovered when I watched an SBS TV show that was shown in Australia about a lady detective of Italian ancestry and her mafia family in Melbourne called Carla Cametti.  This song is Zerosospiro’s C’é un tic.  You can also find this song on the artist’s 2008 album Mentre il sole splende (while the sun shines).

This song appealed to me because of the Italian, but I also found it fascinating that there were some English words sprinkled through it as well.

To hear the whole song you need to go here.

Zerosospiro was founded by Paolo D’Errico and Alessandra Ferrari.  Their album Mentre il sole splende was released by the Bologna based Italian record label Irma.

You liked the music but what about the cooking, after Simona’s experiences I do not think I will be interested in the show or book.

The recipes were different Linda. She made Italian inspired recipes. I think my favourite recipe of all was her roast chicken cooked on a bed of leeks and peppers. This probably appeals most to me since it uses two of my favourite vegetables. N didn’t like the sound of the chocolate pasta with butterscotch sauce, but in the end it is all down to preference. I’m glad I watched the show as I was curious to know what she was going to cook since I have never read, bought or watched anything Nigella in the past.

      You reflect what you eat!

Great timing Cathy. The series is screening here right now but I think I’ve reached my Nigella quotient! A friend sent me a hilarious review of the book from one of the Brit dailies months ago now. Road testing the recipes with a couple of Umbrian home cooks no less! It was hilarious but quite put me off dear N who I had previously always admired. Maybe the music is the highlight but I’m glad you have taken some good from the show. I should really judge for myself I suppose! ;-) x

Thanks Janine. Yes I saw that review, one of the Umbrian cooks is actually a friend of mine. For me the music really added to the show (hence this brief post about the music rather than the food) :-)
